NO TURNING BACK!!

Do you know what it is like to have no net-book? I do, and I never want to turn back.

In the olden days (last year), we use to use pencil and paper, and that made school, a bit boring. I would never want to go back to that. Last year all classes had to write in a book which was horrible, because, when we wrote a really awesome story, we didn’t get a chance to put it on our blog and show it to the world. It’s kind of like training for a sports match and train and train, but don’t get a game, who wants to do that? But with the net-books we can write a story and put it straight on our blog.

Ever since we have had our net-books, it has made my learning better, HEAPS BETTER!! They have made school better and have made me actually want to come to school now. I have been learning lots on the net-books in lots of fun ways like maths whizz, Thesaurus.com, Dictionary.com and a whole lot more of exciting sites. Another way the net-books have been a help is that, instead of going to our teacher to find out what we are going to do next, we get to go on Google Sites, which is easier for us, and a whole lot easier for the teachers too.

But still there are some problems that we have, and we think there can be improvements. One of them is our drawing system. We use Tux Paint, but, our drawing is not as good as what we do on the iMacs. The Tux Paint system almost makes our work look like a 6 year old did it. There is one last problem; the Internet connection is not fast enough. It is a bit slow and sometimes, on other peoples net-books, their Internet keeps on going on and off and on and off. That’s about it.

I can hardly imagine what it would be like without a netbook.

OUTTA THIS WORLD!!

Through out this whole term, Room 17 got a project from our teacher to animate two parts of a movie. in the first part of the movie we had to create a problem that was wrong with the earth, my problem was, a lot of people were dropping their rubbish on the ground. Because this has happened know one has anywhere to live and then we had to move to a planet in space, JUPITER.

The second part of the movie was, there was also a problem on the planet we picked to live in. My problem was that there was no air to breath and we were breathing in toxic gas. The tricky part of the second part of the movie was that for this problem, we had to have a solution. I found a solution but you have to watch the movie to find out. Hope you enjoy it.

Adidas Sale!!

Through out Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, ADIDAS had a sale with lots of cool things. ADIDAS has a sale every once a year, and they bring out a lot of new stuff and put them on a very very low cost from their usual cost. I only went on Saturday and Sunday. My auntie works at ADIDAS and she gave my whole family free tickets to go in.
When I first went with my cousin, my cousin rang his mum who worked there, let us in for free and we started our SHOPPING (cough cough). When we started walking around, I was holding a bag to bye. We were looking at these runners and I really wanted to bye them, but I didn't have enough money. When I knew that the workers could get a discount, I gave my runners that I wanted to my auntie to bye. I also went to the sale on Sunday and then brought 6 pairs of all blacks socks, and a All Blacks training jersey.

The ADIDAS sale was awesome and I can't wait for next years sale. I heard that the next ADIDAS sale, they would have with REEBOK gears to.

Athletics Day 2011

On Wednesday the 23rd of November 2011, Pt. England School had their Athletics Day. It was a really cool day which everyone was apart of. This day was awesome with lots of activity’s such as high jump, discus, shot put, sprints and a whole lot more. My best activity was HIgh Jump. I went further then a lot of my friends, but of course, I didn’t get to win. I loved this day and I thought that it was the best athletics of all my years here at Pt. England School.

Election Votes 2011

The extension group of Pt. England School got a task to make our own billboard for the elections. The reason we had to do this is because we have been learning about this all week and the elections are are coming up this Saturday. We had a choice to make our own party or stick to the real party that we got to choose. This is my billboard.

My prediction for this weeks election is that Labour is going to win. This is because I think their way of seeing New Zealand's future is better then other party's. There are two very important things that are involved in the elections and they are MMP and First Past the Post. Fist Past the Post is when a person crosses out a box next to a candidate and the candidate with the most votes wins and the other votes don't matter. MMP stands for Mixed Member Proportional. MMP is a voting system that was originally used to elect representatives to the German Bundestag. I really hope that Labour will win the elections. GO LABOUR.

FREAKED OUT

Before we were even going to do abseiling, I said that I was going to do it and I was so excited, but, I was actually freaked out to even climb up. When the first person went up, I was really embarrassed to say I wasn’t going to go up because, the person was smaller than me, smaller than a lot of people. I really wanted to go now.

I finally decided to do it, but I was still really really nervous. As I was climbing up, I was saying to my self “Don’t look down, don’t look down”. Man I wanted to get this over and done with. When I got to the top, I was so relieved. The next step was to come down, I was FREAKED OUT.

Coming down was probably the best part, why? because it was almost finished. when I got to the top, I started shaking, that’s the first time I have ever been that scared. The most scariest part of it all was leaning back. I didn’t want to do it, but that was the only way to get down. Eventually I got down (which was a long time) and when I finished I wanted to go for another turn, but that was our only go.

IT'S KAYAKING TIME

Kayaking was next, and I wasn’t sure to go because I heard that we were going to see STINGRAYS. I was so scared. As we were kayaking out, our kayak pro, Erin said to us “Hey lets go see the stingrays” “WHAT” we all said I saw my first stingray and it went underneath my kayak which was pretty scary. We started to see a lot of stingrays and I started to get used to them.

At this point, I did not want to capsize. I was kayaking so carefully trying not to get into the water. We were kayaking and, the water was getting more and more shallow and my kayak couldn’t go any further. I could even touch the ground with my hand. “Can we go back now” I said.

When I saw our camp ground and all the campers, I was so relieved to get back on shore. Erin said that we were going to play a game called kayak tiggy, and I didn’t really want to play. When we were finished our kayaking activity, I was so happy. Didn’t capsize once.

THE TERRIFYING HIKE!!

“A hike, really?” I said. When I heard that we were going on a walk, I was horrified. As I was looking at the hills that we were going do it on, I just froze up. When we started the tramp, my legs were getting tired in a second. I was so happy when I saw a flat ground ahead of us. At this stage, I had a rest and a drink of my water bottle (just as well I brought a big one).

When we finally stopped for a rest, I had a little sleep. After that I had a big munch of my lunch because I was so hungry. We then got to play near the beach and everyone started skimming rocks on water, it was so cool. My high score was three skims on water. When I heard we were walking again back to the camp, I quickly found a tap and filled up my bottle.

The last walk was shorter than the first. I was thinking that we were going a shorter way. “Why couldn’t we do this way in the beginning” I said. As we were walking, I started to go ahead of a lot of people. I was at the back of people when we were going uphill, but I started passing lots of people and I thought that they were tired from the uphill part. When I was finished I quickly found my bag, went to my cabin, set up all our beds then just had a huge rest.

!!ART IN SPACE! 17!!

Room 17 got a task to draw three perspectives of four superheroes and make a pretend trailer using the pictures we drew (we didn't actually make a movie after we made the trailer). We used lots of applications on the iMac like Hyperstudio, Comic Life, iMovie 11 and lots more. In my trailer I used the superheroes Captain America, Wolverine, Dead Pool and the ALMIGHTY THOR.

Captain America comes from earth and was skinny but was made in a machine to be more stronger. I think that Captain America has no weakness, I reckon that he is strong without and with the shield. Dead Pool's strength is a thing that he has called a Accelerate Healing Factor and without that he can die in one shot of a bullet.

Wolverine has the the same thing as Dead Pool and has a thing called a healing factor, that regenerates damaged or destroyed tissues of his body far beyond the capabilities of an ordinary human. Thor has both a weakness and a strength. His strength is when he has the hammer and without the hammer he is pretty much nothing.

This is my trailer and I hope you like it.

Tennis Coaching

"Tennis? Aye" I said when we heard that we were going to have Tennis Coaching. I was so suprised when I heard that we were going to do this sport beacause, well,Tennis is not what New Zealanders play so I was wondering how this was going to go out. Were we good, or NOT?

My mum had always told me that she used to play tennis when she was younger, and I never believed her. One day I saw a old dusty tennis racket in a shed outside and it said my mums name on it. "So you did play tennis" I said. She sighed and walked off, I wanted to know more about it. I was annoying her all day.

The first skill we had to learn was how to hold the Tennis racket, in other words the grip. First, we had to put our hand in a V position, and picked it up like you were using a frying pan. This was the same way we held the BAT, when we had Cricket coaching. We then had to bounce our tennis ball with the racket and keep the ball steady, It is harder then you think.

We then had to learn was the forehand. Our coach Marcel told us that we were going to play a game and everyone started cheering. Games was what we were really here for. Thsi game was supposed to help us learn how to hit a forehand properly. We had to choose a partner, and they had to toss us the tennis balll. Marcel wanted us to hit it softly but I wasn't used to, "Come on HAND" I said.

That first day of tennis coaching was so cool and was really fun. I cant wait for the next week.

ICE CREA COMETS!!

Do you know what comets are made of? They are made from Ice cream cones, Ice cream and crushed biscuites.....NAH I am just joking. Comets are actually made from, real ice, dust, rocks, and lots of gas. As comets get closer to the sun, they start to melt, and melt, and melt untill it is all gone. Kind of like how it was when we made ICE CREAM COMETS.

I was so excited. When I first walked into the class, I was wondering what Room 16 were doing in here. "Aye, not to be rude but, why are they here for?" I asked. By the time I sat down, I saw Ice cream on the Teachers table, icecream cones, buscuites and sprinkles. It was like heaven. I didn't know what we were doing. As I was sitting down, me and my mate over heard people saying Ice Cream comets and then it all started to make sense. Ice Cream for the ice, Crushed biscuites for the dust and rocks and the Ice Cream Cone for the tale. Everyone had wild excitments. I had a impaient stomach.

We started of by, our teachers Miss. Garden and Mr. Somerville putting buscuites into a plastic bag and giving it to students to bashed for the dust. There was supposed to be big and small pieces but our students dominated the biscuites into little tiny pieces (I really wanted a turn). The real purpise for this was to see what a comet is like, but we all were just here to eat. You could even see it. Miss Garden gave us a scoop of Ice Cream and we had to put it in our hands. Thats why we needed to wash our hands really clean at first. Man it was ice cold. After that we had to get a bit of crushed biscuites and a Ice Cream Cone. It was Delicious. I was Scavenging for more.

By the time we all finished our ice creams, our courtyard was all MESSY! Our class cleaned that place and our class specially for this day and at the end, it was just to messy. Some people droped theirs so that was a real pain. Their was alot, and I mean alot of crushed biscuites on the ground beacause of them. Man you should of seen my face when even and also my hands were a sticky mess. The courtyard was more like a junk yard at the end.

At the end of the day, we all had fun. I really really hope we can do that again.

Movie Banaza

“ Yes, finally I’m gonna go somewhere” I said when my auntie, told me and my cousin were going to go to the movies. This was going to be the best day ever as this was the first time I had been anywhere all holidays. I was so thrilled.

When we got to Sylvia Park, we went to Pak n Save to get our snacks. This was because it was WAY cheaper over there than at Hoyts. Our budget was fifty dollars, so we took our chance and bought lots of snacks. We knew that we were going to be fool through out this whole movie. I just couldn’t wait to go.

My cousin and I watched Johnny English 2, it was so hilarious. I thought it was the best out of lots of other movies. "HAHAHAHA" I said when the movie was on.

We watched !!REAL STEAL!! After the movie, we stayed in for the credits to finish all our food. “ Man we cant even finish” I said. So we just went back home and saw dinner on the table. I so wanted to eat but, my stomach was just too full.

After that day I was happy that I had finally gone somewhere, it was so cool, two movies in one day. I hope to do that again.

My RWC Countries

This movie s about two countries that I did research on. These countries were picked by our teacher Miss. Garden. The countries that she gave us had to be a country that was competing in the Rugby World Cup 2011 hosted in New Zealand. Hope you enjoy my movie that I made.

Manly Sea Eagles Fly High

On Sunday 3rd of October, the Manly Warrington Sea Eagles took on the New Zealand Warriors in the NRL GRAND FINAL!! This game was going to be great, but at the same time they were both fighting to try and win the Telstra Premiership.

The CROWD WENT WILD, when both teams came out. As the teams were in the locker room, Maori people came out to lead the Ka Mate Haka. It was so cool when all the Warriors fans joined in and as loud as they could, they chanted the Haka, which would have hyped up the Warriors for the first half.

The battle against Krisnan Inu and Steve Matai was crucial. They were both bumping off each other, trying to get them out of the play. Steve Matai took the first hit on Krisnan Inu, but then Krisnan Inu came back and and hit Steve Matai two times “Woohoo, Kiwis” i said.

With a penalty goal kicked by James Maloney, Brett Stewart scored with a beatiful inside ball from Daly Cherry Evans. Two more tries were scored for the rest of the first half. Warriors scored two unconverted tries and tried to bounce back, but they let away one more try.

At the end of the game, The Manly Warrington Sea Eagles won to be the best team in 2011. Next year Warrioirs, next year.

SAMOA DOMINATE NAMIBIA!!

This game will be on at Wednesday the 14nth of September at 1:30. This game will be held at Rotorua International Stadium which is in, of course, Rotorua. I predict that the score will be 45-21 to Samoa. GO MANU SAMOA!!

The Rugby World Cup Begins

On Friday the 9th os September, the Rugby World Cup Kicked off. It was also the night to celebrate ten years of the 9 11 attack in America. The opening ceremony was awesome. It got separated in to four parts. I reckon that it looked better on T.V, then live at Eden Park.

To kick off the tournament, the MIGHTY ALL BLACKS took on TONGA. I had a feeling that the All Blacks were going to have high points. But the score ended up being 41 - 10 to the All Blacks. Of course we knew that they were going to win, but it wasn’t the score that we were expecting it to be.

The crowd was awesome when they were cheering for their teams. When the teams were doing the HAKAS, the crowd went berserk. People supported really well and some people even dressed up.

Although the city struggled with the huge crowd, some people agreed that the opening ceremony was a huge success.

NEW ZEALAND THRASH TONGA!!!

Tomorrow the RUGBY WORLD CUP TOURNAMENT 2011 will kick off. The matches that will be kicking off the RWC tournament will THE ALL BLACKS up against the team with lots of fans, TONGA. This match will be crucial as it is the first match of the tournament. I predict that the the score for this game will be 108 to 7 to the ALL BLACKS. The best part will be when the ALL BLACKS do the HAKA and when TONGA do their chant.

When I Grow Up

In the Wekas group in room 17, we have been learning to use information from the text to learn new words. We have been reading a book called When I Grow Up. One of our tasks was to draw a picture matching a phrase that people say often like, jelly legs or run like the wind. In this picture, I draw a picture matching the phrase, RUN FOR YOUR LIFE. Hope you like it.

The Digestive System

Recently in the year 5/6 Extension class, we have been learning about what a healthy digestive system looks like. We got splited up into groups which got papers about the digestive system. We had to make a animation matching what was said on the piece of paper. The extension class has been doing this to show how important water is to people around the world and to also think about the people in Africa. My part of the movie is the first part of the digestive system

My reflection on our team movie is that all our animations were awesome. I think our voice overs were great and i reckon that our movie will be enjoyed. I rate our teams movie out of ten, 9/10. What do you rate our movie?

How To Look After a Baby Bird

Our reading group has been learning to get information from a range of different sources.
We have found out how you can care for baby birds.

New Zealand

New Zealand is a beautiful country, and a must - do for any travel holiday. Our country has idyllic islands with stunning coastlines. It also has thrilling adventure activities like bungee jumping, and hiking, on our vast mountain chains.

Badminton

“GO, GO, HIT THE SHUTTLE”!! I said. Every Friday in the hall Room 17 have badminton training with Laureen which was a great badminton player for a old person (not that old), but this week, we had a different coach named Donna who had a WHOLE different style and was way younger. We did a lot of activities like badminton soccer, we played badminton, and we learned some and lots more, we even got taught some really cool strikes we could do. I was very excited, BUT also nervous.

How to play badminton you might ask?? Well, you could play in teams of two, or just one on one. The whole point of the game is to hit the shuttle, get it over the net and let it bounce on your opponents side, you then just rally for more points and then see who wins. BUT, it’s not easy. For some people badminton is natural for them, but me, hitting the shuttle could be pretty hard and I could get easily frustrated from it, but with more perseverance and determination, I knew that I could do way better.

Over in the hall we learned lots of different hits and strikes. We learnt the backhand, the forehand and the overhead shot. Hitting the shuttle with these strikes, I got more and more better at badminton. I knew that I could do it, it was actually a pretty easy thing to do when I started to get the hang of it.

The activities we did with Donna were great, we played a game called badminton soccer, the activity to help us do the over hand strike, and the best of all, BADMINTON!! MAN all games were funny, competitive, frustrating (again), and a whole heap of FUN. Badminton soccer was cool but sadly I lost. Playing badminton was the best part of the whole training session. Man I was beating a lot of people and some of those people were the natural badminton players(I think that I am on their level now). Man badminton was great.

I loved badminton that day, and would love doing every Friday. To make it even better, our class split up and we went into a class that went strait to badminton, WHICH WAS AWESOME.

Pimp My Courtyard

This is my rubric marked by my classmate Marvin. The red writing is the paragraph that Marvin marked on the rubric. This is also my persuasive writing about why our courtyard needs a makeover. Click on the rubric to get a closer view.

Outside Room 17 we have a courtyard which hardly anyone plays in. There are many reasons for this. First of all it looks ugly , too many people get crammed on the hard court with crowded conditions, and we don’t have space to just relax and sit down. So room 17 has surveyed kids while, we have been redesigning our courtyard to make it better for kids to play with.

Unfortunately, our courtyard is extremely hideous. Which doesn't entice children to come in. There is a big muddy drain right in the middle of it. This makes people trip up over when they are running or playing. Sadly, this horrible place is also unattractive. The walls are all dirty, because annoyingly, people with grubby hands, wipe their grubby mits all over them. We think that if we give this courtyard a makeover, more people would respect this place

Whenever the fields are closed, years 6-8 have no place to play and then, we get bored. When we get bored, we get frustrated because we have nothing to do, then cannot concentrate on school work. At that time, we have no place to play. These reasons being, is that all our other play areas are fulled with children and, again we have no place to play. This makeover will invite them in for more children to play.

Finally, like I said in that other paragraph, the hard courts and our play areas get crowded. People like us need more place to play in, or else we cannot work properly in class. Also little children get knocked over by the big kids with their sports gear, and like you said, our children need to be safe.

So don’t you think that we need a makeover so our children can be safe and we can work better in class? I DO.

Partly Cloudly

The main characters in this mini film are the clouds and the storks. The story is set in the sky. In the beggining of this story all the good storks in the sky have to deliver babies from the clouds. The main action for this story is that there are all these good clouds give good babies and there is this bad cloud which makes bad babies like crocidiles and sharks. The stork for the bad cloud goes to the other good clouds making the cloud think that he is now going over to the good clouds but actually he is going to get protective gear to protect him from getting hurt from the bad babies. I rate Partly Cloudly a 8 out of 10 because it was it was a good story line.

Extreme Makeover Courtyard Edition

Drinking Fountain

In me and my partners team design we have put in a new drinking fountain. We have put that in because our old one is too small for us and our backs get sore. I need to contact Mr. Jacobson or Mr. Malloy to ask if they know any people to build drinking fountains because I can't any cheap prices for drinking fountains.

Smooth Ground (Smooth Concrete)

We have also put smooth concrete in our team design. My partner put that in because he thought that it would be better then the rough ground. I am also thinking of covering the grass outside our class room with the smooth ground. My dad can do it and a little help from Mr. Malloy would be great. All we need now is some cement and we are all sorted.

Wooden Deck

My partner decided to add a new deck to the steps. He thought that it would be good for hanging out if anything gets bored. My partner couldn't find any prices until he heard that you had to hire a builder to build or you could DIY.

Cable Car [Final Part or Part Five]

Finally the last part before coming back to the same old life in Auckland [JOKES] we went on the cable car. Man I thought it was going to be the one in the air but it wasn’t;  it was like a train, but still cool. At the top we took our last pictures, (Most of them of the GIRLS or LADIES) and we got to see rugby players playing down at the field.

The plane back home was just writing and writing, and I got bored so I shut down my netbook and started answering questions on the screen on top of us, well we didn’t watch on top of us, ooh you know what I mean. Wellington was the best and I will LOVE to go there to the WINDY city and go experience that all again, WELLINGTON WAS AWSOME.

Te Papa Museum [Wellington Part Four]

Te Papa MuseumWAS AWSOME. The stuff inside that museum was awsome. My favourite thing that was there, all put together, was this cow, not just any cow it was a cow made out of CORNED BEEF CANS, it was cool. There was a lot of touching things at the Te Papa museum and the best touching thing was this mix maker, and we all crowded around it and started playing around, which was pretty cool.

I’m sorry but the best part of the whole trip and Te Papa museum....BESIDES the Koru Lounge, would be the motion master or the motion ride. The cool thing about it was that we saw it as a real life video instead of a cartoon video. Before we got to see that we saw this Wii thing, where you get a special kind of wand and it makes a hand move on a huge screen. What you have to do is to take a picture of your self and you can mess around with it and muck it up, and we got to do it over and over and over again.....BEFORE we got on the motion ride. Te Papa Museum was cool and I mean cool.

Koru Lounge in Wellington [Wellington Part Three]

Probably the best part of the whole Wellington trip was the Koru Lounge in Wellington. We got in and again iPads and  iPhones everywhere but it was okay; did I mention that we had our Net-books in our bags? When we got in Mrs. Burt told us that we could go back and forth to get more food and drinks, all for free. One thing Mrs. Burt told us not to do was to get a whole bunch of food on one plate.

Man it was awsome there, eating, drinking as many as we want. This one time when we had dessert, my friend Darius came in with two trifles on his plate. The best food there were this meat thing with rice which I had a million times. Koru Lounge was great and would love to go there just one more time

Presenting at TUANZ Conference [Wellington Part Two]

The eight of the us young presenters were hidden at the back of the stage, ready to present to people who are older then us. I WAS REALLY NERVOUS. Before we got on stage Mrs. Burt told us that they thought that it would be important people from America or something. but nooo it was actually going to be little kids presenting to them.

When we got on I was extremely nervous, seeing older people with there iPads iPhones everything Apple has to offer was there at the conference. But it was okay, I started to get more and more confident as I started to speak more. I was very happy of myself when I walked of the stage.

Going to Wellington [Part One]

“Wake up now son, get ready now” my dad said to me. It was not a normal morning, on Thursday morning. I struck out of bed excited to go to Wellington. It was my first time for me to go Wellington so I was really really excited to go today, and to make it even better, I got to go with my mates.

First we got to go to the Koru Lounge in Auckland. I am not sure if it was the Koru Lounge because we went in our own private room which was even better. We went in to see biscuits muffins and a big jug of orange juice. That was like my breakfast because I didn’t have any in the morning so I had two shortbread cookies and two cups of juice, it was nice.

Technology Challenge Part Two

Planning:First my group is going to roll up three pieces of paper into pipes, and then tape them up separately. We are then going to cut holes at the end and beginning of each paper. After that we are going to connect the pieces of paper together and then put the marble through the first tube.

What we did:As soon as we started making our track we straight away started rolling up pieces of news papers. After that we started to cut holes in them. Two holes in the small tube, two holes in the medium tube and one hole in the long tube. We didn’t end up completing the plan but it was still fun.

My Awsome Term 1

This term was awesome. To start it all of, I was selected to be one of the Pt.England School Ambassadors, [Presenting to visitors that come to school] and we even get to go to Wellington to present next term to PRESENT THERE, what an awesome opportunity. I haven't been on detention like most of my years of school. I just CAN NOT wait for the holidays to come, OOH lets get back to my first term. Camp was also cool, well because, you know its camp with your friends. I was the leader of my group True Crew. Another cool part was being in the year 5 and 6 extension group in Pt.England. We got to do things like go to the Auckland Museam and enter the compitition, I AM MAKING MOVIES 2, but we are still working on our movies. My favourite part of this term is probably art with our teacher Miss Olivia Muliamaseali’i. She comes every Friday and one hour in the morning on Thursday. Another awesome part was getting our netbooks. I was really excited, and I am probably on it as you are reading this right now. I know how to try, just try to make my term better next term, try to listen to the teacher, don’t get in trouble and to get involved with opportunity's like going to Wellington for example, but I really need to work more on my writing in Term 2 for 2011.

Vote for the Best Introduction

This might not seem right but these are two introductions that I wrote in my class, and I need you to tell me which one is better so I can use it in my story I am going to write about my easter holiday. The first one starts straight away on the action and the second introduction is telling you about my thoughts or feelings.

“WOOO HOOO” I said, as I came speeding down the slide with my cousin. I was at the Waiwera Pools for my 2011 Family Reunion. We had to do things like perform items, play games, and we had lots of food, which was probably the best part for me.

I had seen lots of pictures of Waiwera Pools and it looks very cool, the thing was, is that I knew that nearly everybody in my family has been there, but me. We went there for our 2011 Family Reunion which was exciting for me.... and well every one else in my family.
