AMAZING RACE!!

This is where the picture came from ttp://ak.cdn.sptidigital.com/sites/asia.axn/files/images/large_custom/img_1228132674.jpg

Sprinting like a cheetah I was off top start the AMAZING RACE!! One of activities was a Amazing Race and there were three main parts of the race that we had to do. IT WAS FUN!!

The first part of the race was a slingshot challenge. We had to make a slingshot with a piece of rubber, some string, and a piece of wood. Our group was struggling to make the slingshot and it was wasting our time. When we finally made it we, it was even HARDER to get points. That was our worst challenge, we got hardly any points but we did get close to the 100 point target.

The second activity was for our groups to make a hobo stove. It was so cool and all the items that we needed to make one was everywhere around Glen Innes. So we all split to get these items. The fire starter was at the YMCA pools (which is where I went), the egg to cook was at the bakery, The wood and the tin to cook the egg ON was at the Pt. England Reserve and the matches were at the school office. It took a lot of time to start the fire and we eventually got there. We shared the egg around our group and it was beautiful.

The 3rd and final activity was to spell the word RESPECT, but only using our body’s. It was a great and creative challenge to do, but it was also hard. At first we had trouble trying to do the R of respect, but when we FINALLY got it we spelt out the whole word. We then had to upload it to the computers and put them in Keynote. After we did that we had to put them in the correct order to spell Respect and then rush to the finish line. Our group was VICTORIOUS and we were all so happy.

This activity was great and I can’t wait to do it at the next year ⅞ camp.

SHOW NOT TELL!! (Hydro-Slide)

Sliding rapidly, zooming in the swirling water, I was twisting and turning down the dark tunnel. The swirling water, propelled me into the pitch black hole. I was going towards a bit of light and knew that it was going to end. SPLASH!! and I was out.

Ben Carson A.K.A Gifted Hands

Benjamen Carson was born in Detroit Michigan. His mother Sonya dropped out of school when she was in her 3rd grade and got married at 13. At only 8 years old, Ben’s mother and father were divorced and Sonya was left to raise both her boys at once. She had to go to 2-3 jobs a day to provide for her boys, but she was hardly ever home with the Ben and his older brother.

Ben and his brother were both far far behind in school. In the 5th grade, Ben was at the bottom of the class and people were calling him a dummy. It developed a violent uncontrollable temper. Their mother noticed that both her boys were failing in classes, so she was determined to change their lives around. She limited their television watching and didn’t let them outside untill they finished their homework. She got them to get two library books out and got them to read it. To prove that they have actually read the book, they had to write a summary for the books that they read. But Ben and his brother knew that with her poor education, she couldn’t read it.

One day, Ben’s science teacher walked in with a rock and asked the class, “Does anyone know what this rock is?”. Ben was waiting for some of his classmates to put their hands up, but no, no one did, so Ben slightly raised his hand and everyone stared at him waiting for the answer. “I think that’s a obsidian rock”. “Yes that is correct Ben”. He had remembered it from one of the books that he read and from that moment on, Ben realised that he wasn’t so stupid at all. He started to amase his classmates with his knowledge and in 1 year, he went from the bottom of the class, to the top ofthe class. He was determined to be a physician. But their was one problem, he had to find a way to control his violent temper.
