Neil Armstron

Sadly on the 25th of August, Neil Armstrong an American hero died from complications from heart surgery. He was a great American hero because of what he did. He was the first man to step on the moon. Everyone in the world tuned in to watch him and his space - rocket land on the moon.

Neil Armstrong’s greatest achievements was obviously his landing on the moon. “One small step for man, one giant leap for mankind”, proclaimed Neil Armstrong as he stepped out onto the Moon. History was made in 1969. He was the commander of Apollo 11. When people said that he was a hero, he tried to avoid the limelight because he didn’t like being famous.

Smoking is Bad

Smoking is bad for you and it can cause major health issues. It can give you lung cancer and you can have a higher chance of dying at a young age. It could block your arteries causing heart diseases. Getting a part of your body amputated is the worse thing that could happen to you.

Cigarettes can affect what you look like. If you keep on smoking then people will think you are older than what you are. It can give you lots and lots of wrinkles. You could get lots of cosmetic issues like yellowed teeth, and really really smelly breath.

People spend from 14 to 15 dollars on a pack of smokes and if they buy a pack a day every week then that is $105 a week. That is a lot of money to spend on just smokes. People think that they just want to smoke every now and then, but once you start the nicotine gets you addicted. That makes you smoke more and then you will lose more money.

If smoking is so bad, why do people start? Well for one reason, they think they're cool. They are pressured and influenced by their friends to smoke. Another reason is that people around might be smoking like family members.

The hardest thing that I could think of in the world is to stop smoking, so don’t ever start!

Animators Work Shop

Last week on Thursday, the extension group got a chance to see some special animators. There were two men that were animators from Bro Town  and there names were Ali, Maka, the last guy Nills was a man from Auckland that paid them to come and teach us about animations. We were so lucky for having these guys come over and have the time to teach us more about cartoons and animations. We got taught lots of stuff such as the first animations, zoetropes, and many more cool stuff.

We were lucky to see one of the first animations made in the world. It went from, Gertie the Dinosaur, Mickey Mouse, Scooby Doo and Brotown. We played a cool game where a picture from the programme was blacked out and we had to guess what the picture was and we guessed all of them.

Zoetropes were one of the first things that were used to see moving animations. You put in the zoetrope 12 frames of pictures that change to make a moving object. After that you spin the zoetrope and you will see the picture moving.

I had a great time in that first session, and I can't wait for the next one.
This is the movie that I made about the work shop:

Cross Country 2012

“Man I’m nervous for today”, I said to my friend Samuela. I really didn’t want to do cross country but there was no excuse not to do it. My house is TAINUI. After a while I found a technique that might help me to do better than before, and that was to stick at one pace and a steady jog.

“12 YEARS OLD BOYS, GET READY FOR CROSS COUNTRY” Mr. Jacobson said to us. I started to get nervous as I was walking up with my mates. 'BANG' and we were off. I was thinking to myself “Steady jog, steady jog”. I wanted to run together with my mates because I wanted some company.

As I was running the treacherous track, all I could hear was a squelching noise from my shoes, and when I looked back down on my leg, I could see splattered mud on my leg which splattered back. The track was kind of tricky to maneuver. I was slipping and sliding as if I was on ice.

I loved cross country this year and I had fun with my mates. Can’t wait for next year.

Valerie Adams Silver Medal 2012

On Tuesday the 7th of August 2012 at 6 am, Valerie Adams competed in the Olympics to try and defend her title of the women’s shot-put. Unfortunately she got silver because another thrower from Belarus named Nadzeya Ostapchuk threw 21.36. That score was over Valerie’s personal best. In her interview you could tell that she was visibly upset about her results. She got a medal, but it wasn’t the colour she was hoping to get.
