“Brgghh”. The skies were grey and the wind was blowing into my face. My body began to shiver. It was hard for me to listen to Sam and Anita with all the whistling from the wind and my teeth chattering. Goosebumps started to crawl up my arms and I was freezing like I was in a fridge.
One of the first skills we learned was called drop punt. “WOHOO!!” I hit a perfect shot to my foot and the ball rocketed straight to my partner. He caught and did the exact same thing to me. There was a few things that I knew I needed work on and when I did, I could boot it down town any time.
Do you know what a hand pass is? Well in the second week we learned how to do one. I punched the ball with my fist and after that I started to feel pain but I still carried on and eventually I got the hang of it. As we were doing hand passes we moved on to hand passing while running. “Yeah I got it now” I said in joy.
We finally learned the ruck. Me and my friends knew this was going to be fun because it involved leaping up into the sky. My mate forced the ball up into the air and we bounced into the air challenging to get that ball. “That’s mine” I was thinking. I just got the ball over to our side and I won. It was very exciting and I wanted another go.
This is very fun and it is good that we get to learn a new sport. I can’t wait till the next session of KIWI KICK!!
